Two held for IPL betting in Salisbury Park flat
Pune: The city crime branch raided a flat in Salisbury Park on Wednesday night and arrested two men, who were found accepting bets on an Indian Premier League T-20 cricket match between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals.
The police also recovered five cellphones worth Rs 1 lakh. This is the third time when police have raided a betting circle and busted a racket since the beginning of the IPL T-20 cricket tournament.
In earlier two raids, police arrested 10 people in each raid and filed criminal cases against them. They also confiscated several gadgets.
“In the latest raid, our team found two men accepting bets for the IPL cricket matchvia an online application on behalf of their yet-to-be-identified handler based in Pune. The handler was giving them commission against each bet via online application,” Mohandas Jadhav, sub-inspector of the crime branch, said.
“We have filed a case of cheating under the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Gambling Act and IT Act. Further investigation is underway,” he said.
