Two Jalandhar policemen arrested for taking drugs

Jalandhar: The Jalandhar police have arrested two police personnel while consuming drugs. One of the accused had faced action earlier also in January after being caught taking narcotics. The case has also brought to light failure of the police authorities to get their own officials thoroughly treated for de-addiction.

The act of the cops consuming drugs was caught on camera and a video clip has surfaced.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Gurmeet Singh said Amarjot, a head constable deployed at Basti Bawa Khel police station, and Nirmal Singh, a Home Guard jawan posted in Police Station Division No. 2, were arrested after information surfaced that they were hooked to drugs. He said though there was no recovery of contraband from them, but they recovered lighter used for consuming the narcotics. “They are being questioned about the source and supply of the contraband.,” he said. Both of accused have been sent to Kapurthala central jail.

The DCP said Amarjot was caught earlier also for consuming drugs when he was posted at Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur and he was placed under suspension. After reinstatement he was posted at Basti Bawa Khel police station, he added.

Meanwhile, police sources said when a police personnel is found to be an addict, thorough treatment should have been ensured to get him out of the web of drugs addiction and a close vigil should have been maintained on him.
