Two Mahisagar schoolboys carrying a flag mast electrocuted

Vadodara: Two boys died in a school at Kenpur village of Santrampur taluka in Mahisagar district while preparing for Independence Day celebrations on Thursday morning. The children were electrocuted when the metal pipe they were bringing to hoist the flag touched a high-tension wire.

According to sources, Kenpur secondary school authorities had planned to hoist the Tricolour on the school premises.

The school staff as well as students reached the school in the morning for the preparations. Two boys went to the terrace of the school to pick up a pipe for hoisting the flag. The pipe, however, touched an electricity wire that was passing above the terrace. The children suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital where they were declared dead. The victims were Dilip Rana and Ganpat Valvai, both standard 10 students.

Mahisagar district collector R B Barad on Thursday said school principal had asked a peon to go to the terrace and bring the rod. “However, the boys rushed to do so before the peon and the incident took place,” he said.

Senior district administration officials, including a deputy collector and district education officer, rushed to the school . Santrampur police have registered it as an accidental death case and started investigations.
