Two women killed in accident near Kuvavda GIDC

Rajkot: Two women were killed and eight others were injured when a speeding truck rammed into the rear of a chhakdo rickshaw in which they were all travelling in near Kuvavda GIDC late on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Manjula Dabhi (50) and Jasuben Dabhi (70). The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Rajkot.

According to the police, all the victims belong to the same family and were going to attend a condolence meeting in Navagam village in outskirts of Rajkot city. The two women died on the spot, said police, adding that a complaint of rash driving was registered against the truck driver.

Meanwhile, two brothers died after they were mowed down by a speeding truck near Bhuj in Kutch on Monday evening. The deceased were identified as Lakha Rabari (58) and Manga Rabari (55). Police said that the deceased, who were on a bike, had stopped to talk to one Rava Rabari on the roadside when a speeding truck mowed them down near Mokhana village near Bhuj.

Lakha and Manga died on the spot, while Rava suffered serious injuries and is under treatment at Bhuj civil hospital.
