UGC nod for new sports university in Patiala

Chandigarh: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded approval to the newly established Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala, to award degrees. The university can conduct courses through its own departments, constituent colleges and even affiliated colleges.

The university has also been added to the list of universities established as per Section 2 (f) of UGC Act, 1956.

The university, however, cannot start any off-campus centre beyond the territorial jurisdiction or offer programmes through franchise arrangement with private institutions. It has also been mandated that no distance education programme shall be started without the prior approval of UGC.
