UNICEF India appoints Kareena Kapoor Khan as National Ambassador

Adding another feather to her cap, Kareena Kapoor Khan has been appointed as the National Ambassador for India by UNICEF.

The international humanitarian organization announced this new role for Kapoor Khan on Saturday; she has already been a celebrity advocate for UNICEF since 2014.

In her new capacity, she will strengthen the organization's initiatives in India, focusing on early childhood growth, healthcare, education, and equal rights for all children.

Speaking to Variety, Kapoor Khan expressed her passion for children's rights and education.

"When I reached out to them, I wanted to work for them for child education, because it's always been a topic that's been very close to my heart and once I had the babies, my natural instinct was moving towards children's rights," the 43-year-old actor said.

'How my voice would be heard across India...'

The actor, who is a mother of two young children, Taimur (7) and Jeh (3) with her husband Saif Ali Khan, emphasized the importance of ensuring basic rights for all children in India.

"We always used to talk about the fact that how my voice would be heard across India...whether it's the right to immunizations, to vaccinations, to gender equality, talking about how safety, the safe environment that children need to grow up."

Over the years, Kapoor Khan has worked closely with UNICEF on various projects.

She revealed that they have done some remarkable work together, visiting schools, interacting with parents, and reaching out to their homes.

Her efforts have covered multiple regions in India including Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.

In her new role, she will also appear in videos produced by UNICEF to champion children's rights globally.

Meanwhile, the actor, who recently starred in the 2024 hit Crew, is currently filming Singham Again and has Hansal Mehta's The Buckingham Murders awaiting release.

Speaking about Crew, she said, "If it's one film that deserves a sequel, it is Crew, because I think it was such a refreshing take on women standing on their own, using their mind, standing for their rights, in a very fun kind of way."
