UP: 12-year-old boy crushed to death by car in Aligarh

AGRA: A 12-year-old student was allegedly crushed to death as an unidentified car mowed him down while he was going to school on his bicycle on the Gabhana-Mathura highway in UP's Aligarh on Friday morning.

As the news spread at Jaiprakash alias Bhola's native village Keshopur, agitated residents blocked the traffic on the main road for almost three hours and damaged several vehicles.

The residents pelted stones even on the police personnel, when they tried to clear the road. Some agitated women from the village allegedly tried to snatch a cop’s rifle and tore off the uniform of one of them.

The police subsequently resorted to a mild cane charge to disperse the crowd and control the situation from going out of hand.

According to police, the mishap took place at 7:30am, when the victim, who was a student of Class IV of Guarav Inter College, was mowed down by a red colour Swift desire car, which was going towards Mathura.

Aligarh’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Akash Kulhary said that two cases were being registered after the incident. While one case pertained to the accidental death of the boy, the other was against some of the residents of the village who pelted stones on police and damaged some vehicles.

He said the boy’s body has been sent for post-mortem and efforts were on to identify the driver of the car.
