Uttar Pradesh: 75% Covid-19 patients in top five districts recover

LUCKNOW: While high number of cases among migrants increased UP's Covid-19 tally by 254 news cases on Sunday, the health department data revealed that 75% patients in five districts with high coronavirus load have recovered.


The top five districts in terms of number of cases are Agra, Meerut, Gautam Budh Nagar, Kanpur and Lucknow.

Together they account for over 35% of the total number of coronavirus positive cases in UP. The state average of recovery was 56.11%.

Kanpur leads with a recovery rate of 91.4% followed by Agra where 85% patients are discharged. In 24 hours, the state recorded 132 discharges taking the total to 3,538.

With 254 new cases, the overall tally reaced 6,299. Six deaths – two in Kanpur Nagar and one each in Azamgarh, Etah, Firozabad and Aligarh – were recorded taking the total number of Covid-19 casualties in state to 161.

Gautam Budh Nagar recorded 17 new cases. Meerut in the west and Deoria in the east followed with 15 cases each. Varanasi and Amroha had 13 cases each, while 12 patients were reported in Rampur and Lakhimpur Kheri.

Gonda recorded 11 cases followed by Azamgarh with nine cases. Hapur and Bareilly recorded eight cases each, while seven cases were found in Ghaziabad. Agra saw just six cases. Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar and Kannauj also saw six new patients were reported. Aligarh, Basti, Sambhal, Hardoi, Fathepur and Mahoba saw five cases.

Unnao, Saharanpur and Jaunpur saw three cases each while two new patients were reported in Kasaganj, Baghpat, Balrampur, Ambedkarnagar, Gorakpur, Prayagraj, Bahraich, Bulandshahr, Moradabad and Lucknow.

Kanpur, Firozabad, Siddharthnagar, Mathura, Kaushambi, Jalaun, Amethi, Shamli, Etawah, Maharajganj, Badaun, Jhansi, Mirzapur, Farrukhabad, Chandauli, Shahjahanpur, Mau, Kanpur Dehat and Kushinagar saw one case each.

Principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said that containment zones had been re-defined in the state to undertake targeted and focused activities.

“If there is a single case appears in an area then 250 metres radius of the locality will be taken as a containment zone. But if there are over one cases, the place will be called a cluster and the area covered will be a radius of 500 metres.” Prasad added that the 500 metres area outside the containment zone or cluster containment zone is called buffer zone. In all the three places, surveillance activities are organized to ensure early screening of patients.
