Uttarakhand: Seven zila panchayat chairman posts reserved for women

DEHRADUN: The state government on Sunday announced reservation for the posts of chairman of zila panchayats in Uttarakhand.


Of the total 12 zila panchayats in Uttarakhand, the government has reserved seven chairmen posts for women with four earmarked for general category women and one each for women belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe community.



The post in Pithoragarh district has been reserved for women of OBC category. In Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts, the posts of zila panchayat chairman has been reserved for general women, while Rudraprayag and Dehradun has been reserved for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe respectively.

According to Ranjit Kumar Sinha, secretary in-charge of Panchayati Raj department, the post of zila panchayat chairman in Uttarkashi, Tehri, Chamoli and Almora districts have been kept unreserved. The government has reserved the zila panchayat president post in Pauri for the candidate belonging to scheduled caste category.
