Vijayawada: Man held for sexual assault on grandchild

Vijayawada: Two days after the brutal incident of an eight-year-old girl’s rape and murder in Nallakunta village by her neighbour, another incident of a sexual assault on a three-year-old girl by her 58-year-old grandfather in Bhairavapatnam village took place on Tuesday.

The incident came to light on Wednesday after the cops arrested the accused, the grandfather of the girl.

According to Mandavalli cops, the man went to the girl’s house on Tuesday afternoon.

After learning that both the girl’s parents, who are daily wage labourers, went out to farmlands to work, he lured the girl under the pretext of offering chocolates and sexually assaulted her. The little girl was unaware of the entire act but complained to her parents of stomach pain.

Parents learnt the shocking truth on Wednesday after they inquired her to ascertain the cause of the pain. They then lodged a complaint against the man who was immediately arrested by Mandavalli police and registered a case under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012.

The police said they have arrested the accused and would soon produce him in the local court for judicial remand. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to Vijayawada Government General Hospital (GGH) for treatment. Further investigation is still on.
