Virat Kohli becomes first Indian skipper to score 5,000 Test runs during historic D/N match at Eden Gardens

Continuing his sublime run with the willow for Team India, Virat Kohli reached new heights on Friday as the Indian run-machine across all formats successfully completed 5000 Test runs in his first captaincy stint. Kohli touched down the historic mark in India's first-ever Day and Night Test match against Bangladesh at the monumental Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Returning to the cricketing action after a short break, skipper Kohli was quick to unlock another milestone in the whites for India.

Hailed as the Indian run-machine across all formats, the swashbuckling batsmen is the first Indian skipper to scale mount 5k in the longest and oldest format of the game. 

The Indian skipper had a disappointing outing with the willow in the series opener which India won by an innings and 130 runs. Kohli bagged his tenth career duck in the whites as his bid to complete to record tally of runs was thwarted by the Bangla Tigers at the Indore Test. Making amends in the pink ball Test, the Indian skipper joined forces with Chetashwer Pujara to put the hosts ahead on Day 1 of the ongoing Test match.

Kohli and Pujara both were eyeing 50-plus scores on Day 1 after the potent Indian pace bowling unit managed to bundle out the Tigers for meagre 106 in their first essay. The visitors only managed to record their second-lowest total against India in the format after winning the toss and opting to bat first at the Eden Gardens.
