Voters names' misplaced in electoral roll in Tirupur dist

Tirupur: Political parties raised objections that hundreds of voters were misplaced in a recently electoral roll in the district and expressed concerns as the local body elections may be around the corner.

With 20.65 lakh voters, the electoral roll was released on October 4 by the collector K Vijayakarthikeyan.

“Names of 953 voters at 1st street of RVE Layout on Kangeyam Road in ward 45 in the city were placed wrongly at RVE layout on Palladam Road in ward 52,” said T Jayabal, CPM functionary, who submitted his objection over this issue.

“Similarly, names of 434 voters of TMC colony on Dharapuram Road were misplaced in TMC colony on Palladam Road,” he said.

Further, the political parties also objected that while 15,000 votes were taken as average for wards in the demarcation, many wards in the corporation did not have such standard. For instance, ward 51 was having around 9,000 votes while around 20,000 votes could be found in ward 52. A few parties raised their objections in the demarcation of wards in Avinashi town panchayat and other local bodies.

A corporation official said, “We noticed the errors pointed out by the parties, and we found that the demarcation was fine in that cases but the voters were misplaced in the electoral roll. We would take steps to sort out the issues.”
