Walking stick helps cop nab woman killers

Lucknow: Police on Friday cracked the case of a 70-year-old woman, Meena Singh, a retired health official, who was found murdered in her home in Para on April 16.

The suspects, identified as the victim's son-in-law, Vinay Singh (43), and a woman tenant, Sarita Dubey (45), both residing in the same house have been arrested .

ADCP West, Vishwajeet Srivastava, said, “The arrests were made after the discovery of a walking stick belonging to the elderly woman, which the perpetrators used in the crime. Additionally, the DVR containing CCTV footage, which the accused had attempted to remove from the premises, was also recovered.”

ADCP added that the walking stick was found with the tenant and it had blood stains. “Initially, the deceased's grandson, Jay Singh (19), was implicated in the FIR for murder charges, based on suspicions raised by the victim's daughter, Shalini Singh,” added the ADCP.

The police team ultimately uncovered the involvement of the female tenant in the heinous crime.

ADCP revealed that the elderly woman intended to purchase a property worth Rs 50 lakh in her grandson's name, much to the chagrin of her son-in-law.

“Furthermore, the defendants sought to eliminate the victim as she had caught them in a compromising situation ,” stated the ADCP.
