Water woes lead to gherao at Mapusa

Saligao: Frustrated with the water shortage they have faced over the past two weeks, a group of Mapusa residents led a protest to the PWD office and gheraoed assistant engineer Subash Belgaonkar, seeking a solution to the water scarcity..

The residents say they have not received a single drop of water for the past 15 days, despite repeated assurances from the PWD that supply would be restored.

The protest was led by civic body councilors Tushar Tople, Sanjay Mishal, Anand Bhaidkar, Sudhir Kandolkar and former Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Naik among others.

“I have assured them that PWD will supply them with four hours of water everyday to meet basic requirements” said Belgaonkar. He told protesters that the water shortage was because only 10-12 MLD of water from Assanora treatment plant was supplied.
