We developed coastal, central and tribal regions of Gujarat: PM Modi

AHMEDABAD: PM Narendra Modi on Monday kicked off his election campaign by speaking about the central and state government’s achievements in developing Gujarat.


“I am filled with happiness as a long-cherished dream has been realized today. I have inaugurated the first phase of the metro and laid the foundation for the second phase.

This is our government’s speciality, that as one bit of work is done, we don’t rest. We start working on another,” Modi said.

He said that when he came to power in 2014, the country had 250km of metro rails . “In 55 months, we have taken the figure to 650km, and work on another 800km is under way,” he added.

About Gujarat, the PM said that the central and state governments worked in the tribal belt from Umargam to Ambaji, the coastal areas and central Gujarat.

“Before 2001, there were no class XII (science) schools in the tribal belt. Today, we are providing these areas universities and medical colleges,” he said. Modi added that Vanbandhu and Eklavya Schools, Birsa Munda Tribal University and coaching classes are transforming the area. He also called the Statue of Unity a major boost for tourism and said that the Dahej-Ghogha RoRo ferry was easing business between the two coasts of the state.

Modi called Medicity a “small town”, with more than 10,000 patients treated every day. He said he is proud of the complex provides all medical services under one roof. Even this facility with 5,500 beds is not end of development and it will grow further, Modi said.

Emphasizing his government’s initiatives for health, the PM said that of the 22 All-India Institutes of Medical Science (AIIMS) functioning or at the planning phase, 15 have materialized in the last five years. “Since its launch, about 14 lakh patients have benefited from the PMJAY scheme,” said Modi.
