Will Jacks Creates History, Becomes First Batsman In The World To...

Will Jacks scored a 41-ball hundred as Royal Challengers Bengaluru thrashed Gujarat Titans by 9 wickets. Chasing a target of 201, Jacks' monumental innings clubbed with Virat Kohli's composed 70 helped RCB chase the target in just 16 overs. Meanwhile, Will Jacks created history en route to the stunning hundred. Will Jacks reached 50 to 100 in just 10 balls which is the fastest progression in IPL.

The record was previously held by Chris Gayle which he achieved during his innings of 175* against Pune Warriors in 2013.

Meanwhile, Jacks' 41-ball hundred was the fifth fastest 100 in IPL. Chris Gayle tops the charts of fastest hundred which he scored in just 30 balls against PWI in 2013. Meanwhile, RCB won the game with 24 balls to spare, making it the fastest 200+ run chase in IPL history. Jacks (28) and Kohli (1) smashed Rashid Khan for 29 runs in an over, which is Rashid Khan's most expensive over in IPL history.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted a big score of 200-3 in 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan was the star for GT as he scored 84 runs in 49 balls. He got good support from Shahrukh Khan, who made 58 in 30 balls as GT set RCB a stiff target. The pitch wasn't the easiest to bat and GT was expected to pose a serious challenge to RCB batters, however, Kohli and Jacks were too hot to handle and added 166 runs for the second wicket to fetch RCB an impressive win.

The win has kept RCB alive in the playoff race. This was RCB's third win in IPL 2024 in 10 matches. RCB's playoff chances are hanging by a thread and they won't be able to qualify on their own even if they win all their remaining games. However, if they can win the following games by big margins and boost their run rate, there might come a situation where multiple teams are tied on 14 points and the team with a better run rate goes through.

Speaking about Virat Kohli, he became the first batter in IPL 2024 to score 500 runs. This was his 7th 500+ run season of IPL and he joined David Warner at the top of the list of most 500+ runs in an IPL season.

Will Jacks reflected on his outstanding knock and said that Virat Kohli kept him calm during the phase where he was struggling to time the ball. Jacks called Kohli a legend of the game, adding that batting with the veteran is a great learning curve for him.

"Amazing feeling right now. Faf and Virat got us off to a very good start. I struggled early on, but Virat kept his intensity up and gave me the chance to find my rhythm. Once we had the time-out, we said, "let's get two really good overs here and we win the game." Once that happened, I just kept going and amazing feeling right now. I was trying to be positive (against spin early on), was just struggling. I was trying to overhit the ball, probably little bit tensed. Once I got one away off Mohit, I relaxed, got into my innings and then just trusted myself. Next game, hopefully I do that earlier. (Batting with Kohli) It's amazing, he's a legend of the game and is someone everyone looks up to. To spend some time in the middle is a great feeling a huge learning curve. When I go away from the IPL, I'll learn so much from batting with him and playing with him. I'll try to take it all on board. I need to be a bit more adaptable at the beginning of my innings and get myself in a little bit quicker. I was lucky today because 17 off 17 is not going to win you many games. The other guys around me saved me earlier today," said Will Jacks after the remarkable hundred.
