Salem: Salem: A 21-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit on the roadside near Ponnammapet here in the early hours of Monday. Hours after the crime, her husband surrendered before the judicial magistrate-VII, Coimbatore, in the evening .

The Veeranam police identified the deceased as G Mohaneswari, of Allikuttai in the city.

She was married to K Gopi, 28, of Mannarpalayam in the city, and they had a three-year old son.

According to an investigation officer, the couple were residing in Coimbatore, where Gobi was employed with a private company.

“An alcoholic, Gobi used to quarrel with Mohaneswari regularly. Two months ago, she left him and came back to her father's house in Allikuttai with her son Sibu, over a family feud. She also joined a textile shop in the city as a saleswoman,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, local residents spotted the body of Mohaneswari near Allikuttai and alerted the Veeranam police, who sent it to the Salem government super speciality hospital for postmortem.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Gopi had told his friends in Coimbatore that he was leaving for Salem to bring his wife back. Following that police had come to a conclusion that the murder was committed by her husband. City police commissioner Senthil Kumar had also formed two special teams to arrest the suspect. Meanwhile, Gopi surrendered before the local court in Coimbatore in the evening.
