Woman trampled to death by elephant in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh

Raigarh, Jul 14 A 56-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Sunday in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh, a forest official said.

The incident took place in the wee hours near Tendmudi village in Chhal forest range when the victim, Chamrin Bai Rathiya, went out of her house, divisional forest officer Pranay Mishra said.

The tusker caught hold of Rathiya and smashed her on the ground with its trunk, leaving her seriously injured, he said.

The woman died while being shifted to a local hospital by villagers, he said.

The body was later sent for post-mortem, he said.

The kin of the deceased were provided an immediate relief of Rs 25,000, while the remaining compensation will be given on completion of all formalities, the official said.
