Youth beaten to death over love affair in Ganjam village

Berhampur: A youth was beaten to death allegedly over love affair at Dhaugaon under Dharakote police limits of Ganjam district on Friday night. The deceased youth has been identified as been identified as Alekh Nahak.

As per the police complaint lodged by his father Santosh Nahak, family members of a girl attacked Alekh with sharp weapons yesterday night.

Following the incident, Alekh was taken to Aska Hospital immediately but he was later was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as his health condition worsened. However, he breathed his last early morning on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The youth’s father Santosh clarified, “The family members of the girl chopped-off his (Alekh’s) fingers and hacked him on several parts of the body. When I asked about his condition after the attack incident, he said that he was mercilessly thrashed by the girl’s family members.”

Speaking to media persons, Dharakote Police station IIC Prabhat Sahu, said, “A ‘Bharat Nila’ program was organised in the village last night and the youth who had gone to watch the program later went to the girl’s house. Both were supposed to be in a love relationship, however, some family members of the girl attacked him.”

“A case has been registered under Section 372 of the IPC. While further investigation into the matter is underway, we have detained three persons for interrogation,” he added.
