Youth stabbed by wife's kin, 5 nabbed

Indore: A man was stabbed by his wife’s brothers as he reached Sanwer after marrying her in Ujjain on Sunday.

The youth , 20-year-old Kunal Yadav and Veena Maratha, 19, a resident of Samvid Nagar in Indore had gone to Ujjain, where they got married on Sunday morning.

After Veena’s family members received their wedding pictures, they started looking for the whereabouts of the youth.



Veena’s brother Sachin received information that Kunal was going to Sanwer to meet his grandmother with Veena. Following which, Sachin, his father Suresh, cousin Raju, his friend Bagga and one other reached Sai Vihar Colony where they attacked Kunal with sharp-edged weapons and fled the spot with Veena. “The family was not ready for Veena’s marriage with Kunal and had disagreed for the same. Veena had fled from her home a day ago and married him,” said Sanwer police station in charge MP Verma.

He said that Kunal was rushed to hospital where he was admitted for treatment and his condition was stated to be stable. A case has been registered against Veena’s family members and all five of them have been arrested , said Verma.

Kunal, who lives near Bengali square, was a very close friend of Sachin and frequented his home where he had met Veena., sources said.

After Veena had eloped, her parents had registered a missing complaint at Tilak Nagar police station.

Verma said that Veena, in her statement to police, said that she had gone with Kunal on her own and was not forced by anyone.
