Commentary
  • So 3-0 to West Indies! A new captain and a different result. Different because West Indies rarely win and even more rarely win consistently. Given that they are already strong in T20Is, will this ODI series win enhance the chances of successive series whitewashes? Join us on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 7 pm local (1330 GMT) for all the action from the first T20I. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious West Indies skipper, Kieron Pollard, thanks the almighty for giving West Indies the opportunity to win 3-0. On the plans, Pollard says that before they set foot from the Caribbean, specific plans were laid for every individual and all performed. On not letting anything away even in a dead rubber, Kieron says that winning is a habit and they have not been in this position for quite a while. Stresses that when other teams have been in this position, they have put their foot on the Windies' throat, so KP did not want to lose that opportunity. On the game here, Pollard says that the advice was only to stay till the end. Adds that the main try is to follow the same processes every game. Praises Hope and Chase and even King for batting well. Lauds the bowlers for keeping the Afghans consistently below 250 in all games. Expects them to come back refreshed in 2 days' time for the next series, which is the T20I one.
  • ROSTON CHASE HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE SERIES. On his batting demotion in this game, Chase says that he got the information last night and was surprised but quickly says that Pollard told him that the move is just to try new things and was told that he has done really well. On his batting approach, Chase too, like Hope, says that the aim was to bat watchfully and put the bad balls away. On his bowling, Roston says that he only tried to bowl in the right areas. Is thankful for his skipper to let him bowl 10 overs.
  • SHAI HOPE HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH for his unbeaten century. On this being as a birthday cake, Hope says that he will take the series win as well, as a replacement for the candles. Then adds that the team has been waiting for a long time to win a series. On the plan in this game, Hope says that it was to stay till the end, read the situation well.
  • Afghanistan captain, Rashid Khan, first thanks the crowd for its support. Stresses that his team has tried its best in every game. Looking at this match, he praises Afghan and Nabi's partnership and feels that the total should have been defended, but then praises Shai Hope for his knock. On Yamin Ahmadzai's performance, Khan is very happy that he bowled as he usually does in First-Class matches. Believes that this game would give a lot of confidence to him in the T20Is. On the mantra to start winning, Rashid says that it is all about focussing on doing the right things, learning from the mistakes in the ODIs and then enjoying the game.
  • Earlier in the day, After a poor start, Afghanistan managed to get to 249 courtesy of fifties from Hazratullah Zazai, Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Nabi. Asghar Afghan was the star with the bat for the hosts as it was his 86 that gave them something to bowl at. Keemo Paul was the tormentor-in-chief with the ball picking up a 3-fer. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • A decent bowling performance but Afghanistan looked 20-odd runs short and that proved to be the case in the end. They started off well with the ball but were unable to curtail the budding stands in the middle. Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan all got a wicket apiece. Mujeeb was the pick of the lot with two but in the end dew and the sub-par total was just too little for Afghanistan to avoid their first ever whitewash in an ODI bilateral series.
  • Chasing 250, West Indies got off to a terrible start losing Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer early on in the same over. Debutant Brandon King showed why there was so much talk about him as he showed his temperament and steadied the ship along with Shai Hope with a solid 64-run stand. But King's promising debut was brought to an end by Rashid Khan. Pooran then gave the innings a much-needed impetus and the duo of Pooran and Hope added another 50-run stand. Nicholas though could not continue his good work and made way for his skipper. Pollard then continued from where Pooran left out. The duo then made it a hat-trick of 50-plus stands. It looked like Pollard's dismissal might open the back door for the hosts to spring a surprise but like a true anchor Hope stayed unbeaten with a solid ton and ensured he took his side home with Chase.
  • What a start to the Pollard tenure for West Indies! A 10/10 start for the new captain's tenure. It has started with a well-deserved whitewash. Shai Hope has once again showed why he is the glue in this power-hitting Caribbean side.
