Commentary
  • That's all from this game. This marks the end of 2020 for both these teams. 2021 brings a lot of excitement as the two teams meet on 7th January 2021 for the 3rd Test of the series. The game is scheduled to take place in Sydney. However, there are chances that it can happen at the MCG itself due to Covid-19 issues. Anyway, the action will begin at 1030 local (2330 GMT PREVIOUS DAY). Do join us for that game. For now, goodbye and take care.
  • Australia skipper, Tim Paine, says that they are really disappointed. Feels that they played poor cricket for the majority of the game. Says they were sloppy and if you give a bit to a good side like India, it is always difficult. Credits the Indian bowling attack and says they failed to adapt against them. Adds that there are a couple of games left in this series so they will try to rectify that. On Green, Paine says that he has started really well in his career. Tells that they will stay together in the next few days before the third Test.
  • Ajinkya Rahane, the Indian skipper is named Player of the Match! He starts by saying that he is really proud of the boys. Praises Gill and Siraj for showing character, after their last game at Adelaide. Mentions it was sad to miss out on Yadav. Tells that their plan to go with 5 bowlers worked really well. Adds with Jadeja batting well, it helped them really well. On Gill, Rahane says that Gill has a great first-class record. Says he showed great character. On Siraj, Rahane feels his first-class experience helped him here. On him captaining the side, Rahane says that the talk was about showing attitude and character going into this game. Tells that the Aussies batted really well in the second innings and they had to work hard for their wickets. On Yadav's injury, Rahane says that he is recovering well. On Rohit's availability, Rahane says that they are excited to have him and he spoke to Rohit who also is eager to get back in the side.
  • Stay tuned for the presentation!
  • Right! 1-1 now! When India lost the first game the world knew Kohli is not going to feature for the rest of the series, not many gave this Indian team a chance, provided after their humiliating defeat in the first Test. But India have put that thought to rest to bag an impressive win and set up the series brilliantly.
  • It was all about the Indian bowlers after that as they demolished the Aussie batting. The Aussies lost 6 with the score not even crossing 100 and it looked like the game might well get over on Day 3 itself but the stubborn stand between Cummins and Green forced the game to Day 4. You already know what happened on Day 4. A clinical performance from Rahane's men to level the series.
  • In response, skipper Rahane led the charge in the absence of Kohli and brought up a fine ton. He along with Vihari and Pant added valuable runs and kept the score moving. However, his 121-run stand along with Jadeja gave the Indians a very good lead. They had the chance of swelling that lead more after the wicket of Rahane in the first session on Day 3, the Indians collapsed. Starc and Lyon got 3 apiece with the ball for the Aussies.
  • Earlier in the game, after winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first but the decision turned out to be a disastrous one as they lost 3 wickets quickly. Labuschagne and Head added 86 runs between them to give the Aussies some control but once Head was removed. the Aussies collapsed big time and got rolled over to just 195. It was Bumrah who was the chief tormentor with the ball as he picked up 4. Ashwin got 3 while the debutant Siraj bagged a couple of wickets as well.
  • When Day 4 began, it was always about how long the remaining Aussie 4 batters could battle. They did battle, an entire session which was extended by 30 minutes after India got the 9th wicket and eventually, in the last over of the extended session, Ashwin got rid of the last man. Needing 70, India once again lost Agarwal early but Gill showed his class in this little knock. Pujara fell too but the skipper who got a ton in the last innings, played a few fine shots to take the team home.
  • What a moment for India. They have created history here. Their back-to-back Test wins at the MCG! Don't forget the kind of humiliation they went through in the first Test. And then bouncing back and doing what they have done, that too without their charismatic leader and batsman Virat Kohli, is a commendable job by Rahane's men. He must be a proud leader. Take a bow!

Marnus Labuschagne to Ajinkya Rahane, Good stop near the ropes! But scores are level. Full and outside, Rahane drives it through the covers. The ball is racing towards the fence in the deep. This might well be the winning runs but no. Cummins from covers gives it a chase and stops it with a dive, allowing the batsmen to take three more.
