Commentary
  • Right then, that is all we have from this game. The action continues on Friday, May 13th as Bangalore will go head-to-head against Punjab in another crucial encounter of this 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. That game will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). As you know, over coverage will start in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
  • Daniel Sams is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant spell of 4-0-16-3. He says that the first few games did not go according to the plan and he had some time to reflect on it and he understood that he was focusing more on the batters and decided to focus on what he is good at after that. Tells that they had different plans for the different batters and they had a plan to bowl short if batters get comfortable. Mentions that he is happy to get the opportunity with the bat. Says that the pitches in this season have been helpful for the bowlers and adds that he is happy with the nature of the wicket today.
  • Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says looking at how the pitch was playing and after losing wickets at the start, it was intense but they kept calm and did the job. Adds that he understands this Wankhede pitch and it was nice to see bowlers get into the game, there was bounce and swing from both the sides. Tells that they are giving few chances to some youngsters although the bottom-line stays to win the game. On Varma, Rohit feels he could be an all-formats player for India as he has the temperament and hunger to finish the games. He is on the right path. On Bumrah, he says they have played a lot together so he knows his role really well. Admits that Pollard has been the stalwart for Mumbai, but keeping an eye on the future plans, they made the call and it was Pollard who came up to them and was okay with the decision.
  • Time for the presentation.
  • Zaheer Khan is down for a chat. He says that the win was important and one is out there to experience the thrill of winning the match and they have talked about this in the camp and have tried hard to keep the motivation up. Mentions that overall this season of the Indian T20 League has been exciting as a lot of new players got the opportunity and it's exciting to see fast bowlers coming up and the speedometer going higher and higher. Tells that they are just trying to look at some new personnel and giving some players a go to make them experience the pressure of the Indian T20 League. Says that Pollard has been the real force and one of the main contributors to the success of Mumbai and he was part of the decision and as a member of a core group, he was all in for giving youngsters an opportunity.
  • MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai, says irrespective of how the wicket is, anything below 130 is difficult to defend but his bowlers showed a lot of character, both Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh were superb and games like these will help them in believe in themselves. Adds that India have gone through a period where they were no extraordinary bench of fast bowlers but the Indian T20 League is giving opportunity and the seamers are getting bold and are getting confident after playing a few games. Tells that Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh were a big positive, there are some away with injuries and there are few more up the sleeves. Mentions that it was a chance of survival for the batters, they should have played the way they wanted after facing few deliveries but credit to Mumbai, they bowled well, but the batters needed some application. Hopes they learn each passing games.
  • Time for some interviews!
  • Credit though to Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary who rocked Mumbai inside the Powerplay with 4 wickets. That might have got the Chennai fans and the players to believe. Hrithik Shokeen and Tilak Varma though played brilliantly. The two showed great maturity and responsibility. They added just under 50 before Hrithik fell. The stand though had taken their side close to a victory and in the end, Tilak along with David ensured there were no more wickets to fall and took their side over the line.
  • A comprehensive defeat for Chennai in a game they just had to win to keep their hopes alive. Now, THEY ARE OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT! They just didn't turn up with the bat. Their top order were blown away by Sams, Bumrah and Riley Meredith. It was Dhoni who solely took them close to the 100-run mark but that was never going to be enough.
