Commentary
  • Right! That's all from this game then! The way it started, one would've thought England will post a massive total. However, Australia bounced back and it looked like England will not be able to get over 150. Then Finch gave the ball to Zampa in the 18th over. The over cost Australia 22. And then the way Australia started, it looked the game will be done and dusted in no time. That didn't happen either and eventually, England held their nerves to come out on top and take the first game of the 3-match series. The 2nd game of the series will be played in Southampton on 6th September, 2020. Join us at 1415 local (1315 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • DAWID MALAN IS NAMED PLAYER OF THE MATCH! He starts by saying that he is not sure what is the secret of the success but he is happy as far as it keeps coming. Adds that he himself is a bit surprised. Mentions he enjoys the challenge of pushing himself which exceeds all expectations.
  • Eoin Morgan, the England skipper, starts by telling that one cannot win the game in the first 10 overs but has to be in the last 10. Feels the bowlers came well in the final overs. Praises the twin wickets of Rashid which exposed the Aussie middle order. Reckons it is difficult for the new batters to come and play shots under lights instantly. Heaps praise for Curran and Jordan for leading the attack. Tells that he felt he along with Moeen should've scored more runs.
  • Aaron Finch, the Australian skipper, says that he knew England will keep coming at them and feels they failed to find the ropes between the 12th and 20th over. Adds that as long as they all are running, its a lesson learned. Feels either he or Warner should've taken the game deep. On positives from the game, Finch says that if you remove the result of the game, there were plenty of good individual performances. Tells that England are a bloody good side and they executed their plans really well.
  • Like Australia, England bowlers were thwarted by the Aussie openers in the Poweplay. However, once Finch was removed by Archer, Rashid joined him and with twin strikes pushed Aussies a bit on the back foot. A couple of wickets from Wood meant that Australia were under pressure now! In the end, Jordan and Curran delivered for the team in the final 3 overs. The duo held their nerves and managed to choke the runs. Stay tuned for the presentations.
  • The way the Aussie openers, Finch and Warner were going, at one point, it looked like they might not need the 20 overs to chase the total down. However, post the wicket of Aaron Finch, it was hara-kiri from the Aussie batters. Warner raked up a fine half ton but failed to close the game in the end. Stoinis stayed till the end and took the game deep but failed to seal it for his side in the final over.
  • WOW! What a game! Curran and England hold to their nerves and win a game that looked beyond their reach. Australia have thrown it away! 98 for the opening wicket and then a massive collapse! An absolute cliffhanger and one can say that Australia have done well to lose the game.

Tom Curran to Marcus Stoinis, Two more! A yorker on middle, Stoinis flicks it towards deep mid-wicket and scampers back for a couple. 5 to win. Boundary for the Super Over.

Tom Curran to Marcus Stoinis, In the air... but safe. Oh dear! What is going on? That was in the air for a long time. A full toss from Curran. Stoinis once again fails to time it. The ball goes high in the air towards mid on. Curran goes for the catch but can't get there.

Tom Curran to Marcus Stoinis, A dot now! Swing and a miss again from Stoinis! He is kind of just not watching the ball as good as he should be. It was in the slot for him but he swung a little too hard to miss out.

Tom Curran to Marcus Stoinis, SIX! Connects this time and gets half a dozen. Poor from Curran. A length ball outside off, Stoinis takes a step towards the off side and hammers it over extra cover for a maximum. That will get Stoinis going.

Tom Curran to Marcus Stoinis, A dot from Curran first ball. Terrific. This is going down to the wire. Good length ball on middle, Stoinis swings but doesn't connect.

Chris Jordan to Marcus Stoinis, OUT! That is run out! WOW! What an effort from Jordan. Poor from Australia. Fuller ball around the pads, Stoinis whacks across the line only to miss the ball and gets hit on the pads. Jordan initially starts appealing but then realizes the batsmen are going for a run. He gets to the ball and hits the stumps at the keeper's end. There is an appeal for a run out. It is referred upstairs. First the LBW is checked which shows that the on-field call is the right one and England lose a review. Now time to check the run out. Replays show that Agar has his bat on the line. Ashton Agar walks back to the pavilion.
  • An appeal for lbw! Stoinis is the man in question. It is a double review actually, one for a run out and the other for an lbw. Both the batters in question. Both seem not out though.

Chris Jordan to Marcus Stoinis, A dot now! Shortish and just outside off, Stoinis swings at it but makes no connection. It was change of pace that did Stoinis. Can Jordan finish it well?

Tom Curran to Marcus Stoinis, Shortish and around off, Marcus punches it through point. The sweeper cover does well to keep it inside the rope with a slide. Two taken.
