Commentary
  • So that is it from this game! More to come though as the two face off in an ODI series with the first one starting on 11th September, 2020 at 1300 local (1200 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • Jos Buttler has been given the MAN OF THE SERIES AWARD! Since, he is not here, Moeen Ali takes the award on his behalf. States Buttler brings so much to the team, even if he does not score runs he brings a lot of experience to the side.
  • Moeen Ali, England skipper, says he is happy with the fight they showed but he is disappointed they did not win. He feels they were 15-20 runs short. Adds they played quite a few dot balls which is unlike them. Also says Jonny played well but it was not easy to bat on that wicket. Admits they were not great in the field and also did not back the bowlers how much as they liked.
  • Aaron Finch, Australian skipper, says they knew where they messed up in the first game and he feels they were really good for majority of the game and Marsh and Agar had a huge contribution in doing so. States there are a lot of areas for improvements especially on how they play in the middle overs with the bat. Further adds that he is disappointed to lose the series. States they are feeling confident about the structure of the side and it is now time for the guys to take up the responsibility. Ends by saying they are looking forward to play in the ODIs, it is a bit of mixing and matching in the 50-over format and they still have enough time to prepare for the 50-over World Cup. Finishes by saying they are prepared for the T20I World Cup.
  • Mitchell Marsh is named the Man of the Match. He starts by saying that he feels great to play cricket again and he is pleased with how he played. Mentions that he is happy they finish on a good note but is disappointed they lost the series. Further adds, he did have luck on his side but is pleased he could take his side over the line. States he prefers pace and was pleased Rashid was done with his 4. Ends by saying he is looking forward to the ODI series.
  • It was the Aussie bowlers who set the victory up for them! A combined effort saw them keep the hosts down to a moderate total! It seemed like they would chase this down without breaking a sweat but a few quick wickets in the middle phase did get them worried. Marsh and Agar with a 46-run stand, gave them the first win of the series. Stay tuned for the presentation.
  • England needed wickets early on if they were to defend this but their opening bowlers took a real pounding. When Stoinis and Finch were batting, Australia were cruising. Rashid though then entered the scene and got England back in the game with a brilliant spell. However, once he was done, the rest failed to pick wickets when mattered. Also, England's fielding was poor tonight, a few misfields and dropped catches cost them dearly. Had there been able support for Rashid, the story could have well been different. Overall, it was a very under-par performance from the hosts.
  • The Australian dug out will be a relieved one as they have managed to get over the line! When Smith got out, many of us got that feeling that Australia are going to bottle this one as well. That though was not the case. Marsh and Agar kept their head, batted sensibly and took their side over the line. Yes, Marsh was fortunate when he was dropped early but he then shouldered the responsibility of scoring the runs, he was the mainstay of this stand and along with Agar has made sure England do not whitewash them.
