Commentary
  • Right then! That's it from this one-sided affair. India have dominated the first game and have taken a lead in this series. Nothing worked in England's favour in this game, but they are a dangerous side and will be back stronger! The action stays in the city of London, as we move to the Home of Cricket, Lord's for the second ODI. That game is all set to begin at 5.30 pm IST (12.00 pm GMT). But as you know our build-up will begin much in advance. Do join us then. For now, it's goodbye!
  • Jasprit Bumrah is the Player of the Match. He says there was some swing and some seam movement and these were good signs for the pacers and he was very happy there was help for them. Adds when he bowled the first ball, he saw there was some swing and they tried to exploit that. Adds when the ball is doing something, one does not have to try a lot. Just land the ball in the right areas. Adds he is very happy for Shami and says he has been bowling really well. Ends by saying Pant was really good too.
  • Rohit Sharma the skipper of India says it was the right call at the toss, they wanted to make use of the overhead conditions and they did. States they never really worry about the conditions they have the players to exploit any conditions and today it was suitable for the pacers and they did really well. Mentions the new ball bowlers were excellent. States that he enjoys playing with Dhawan, he is an experienced player and has scored a lot of runs in such conditions. Says the pull shot is a high-risk shot but it came off well today.
  • Jos Buttler the skipper of England says it was a really tough day to take but they need to forget and look forward to the game in Lord's. Mentions they were surprised by the movement they got earlier on and credit to India for exploiting the situation. States they will discuss about how things went in this game. Adds Jasprit Bumrah is a really good bowler and he is one of the best and it is a challenge facing him. Ends by saying it is never easy to force wickets and the bowlers were asked to take risks and take wickets but it did not happen.
  • Stay tuned for the presentation...
  • Earlier in this game, Rohit Sharma won the all-important toss and made the right decision of bowling first. The Indian seamers were breathing fire in the first half of the game, they used the conditions perfectly. Jasprit Bumrah, in particular. He grabbed 6 wickets in this game and demolished England's batting line-up. Mohammad Shami as well took 3 scalps and reached 150 ODI wickets! They bundled out the home side for just 110 runs at the end. In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan chased down the target with ease.
  • It's been a dominant display with the ball and an empathic show with the bat for India! Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have made a mockery of this chase and this green pitch. India's opening pair started playing with a bit of caution early on, but they did not take time to step on the gas. Once Rohit Sharma got going, it was very tough to stop him. After this game, it's safe to say that Rohit Sharma is one of the finest players of the short ball in World Cricket. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 76, while Shikhar Dhawan played the perfect role of the anchor and scored a solid 31. The duo put together their 18th 100-run stand in ODIs!
  • The hosts will be thoroughly disappointed here with their effort. Their bowlers could not really do much with only 110 runs on the board. They did try hard but they did not get much movement from this pitch as the Indian seamers did. They failed with the bat and have failed to grab even a wicket. They kept bowling short and were punished every time! It's been a tough loss for England and with this Jos Buttler's ODI captaincy begins with a defeat.
  • A comprehensive victory for India! Well, it was always going to be a cakewalk for them chasing a target of 111. It's the strong opening pair of India that has breezed past through the target within 20 overs and have taken a 1-0 lead in this series. A complete performance from the visitors, while a disheartening defeat for the home side.
