Commentary
  • So, another game, another early closure due to rain and wet outfield. There are two more T20Is to go between these two and both will be at Old Trafford. Let's just hope that we do get a good deal of play in both the coming ones. The second T20I begins at 1415 Local (1315 GMT) on Sunday, August 30, 2020. Until then, adios, take care.
  • The match had attained entertaining proportions before rain began her dance. It had assumed interesting plays before. Pakistan got the dangerous Bairstow in the very first over. But Banton and Malan stepped on the gas and resurrected the hosts' fortunes. And then once Banton was sent back, it was wickets which kept ticking along with minutes. Just when Pakistan seemed to have an upper hand, rain played its role to perfection. But, to end positively, Pakistan will be happy with the way they bounced back after England's second wicket partnership. For the hosts, a decent learning curve.
  • Update 2100 Local (2000 GMT) - Well, an unfortunate news is coming our way. MATCH HAS BEEN ABANDONED. Yes folks, we are as much shocked and frustrated as you all are. Apparently, the outfield had become too wet to carry on any play further and hence the officials have decided to call it off. Vexing, to say the least.
  • Update 2040 Local (1940 GMT) - So the news from the center is that the rain has stopped now and that the covers are coming off. Play can get underway in another 30 minutes if we do not witness another shower of sorts. Fingers crossed that we do get to see action return back at Manchester. Stay with us folks.
  • Update 2020 Local (1920 GMT) - Well, the rain stopped a while ago and the groundstaff were out to do their duties. But to all our bad luck, it has returned again, frustrating everyone in the ground and off as well. For a five-over chase, we need to be back on by 2120 Local. The target for Pakistan in such a case would be 56, we are given to hear.
  • England were on the backfoot right in the first over when they lost Bairstow. But the second wicket partnership between Banton and Malan was repairing that and putting England in a comfortable position. And that was when Banton lost his wicket, for a well compiled 71. And then the collapse happened. Tom Banton was the star of the show with the bat for England, with Malan and the skipper, Eoin Morgan, making useful contributions. Nothing much from the rest though and Pakistan were on top before rain came in to interrupt proceedings. With the English innings, 131/6, ending prematurely, due to Rain Stoppage, we will have to wait for the revised target for the visitors according to DLS. Hang on as we provide you all the relevant updates...
  • So, that's about it for England's batting innings. Pakistan have done really well to come back into the game. They had Bairstow out caught in the first over itself. But then, the Three Lions bounced back, with Banton and Malan taking charge. Banton was especially ruthless, bludgeoning the ball to cow corner and scooping them for boundaries behind square on the leg side. But once Shadab Khan dismissed him, the other English batters fell like a pack of cards and Pakistan brought themselves back in exceedingly well. The spin bowling had all the spoils while the pacers toiled well but went wicketless.
  • Update 2005 Local (1905 GMT) - Well, we have entered that phase where we start losing overs. The rain continues its downpour and we continue to hope that it subsides soon. Stay around for more updates though.
  • Update 1940 Local (1840 GMT) - It is still bucketing down at Old Trafford. Not far away from losing overs. Stay tuned though as we bring you all the possible scenarios of play.
  • Update 1920 Local (1820 GMT) - Uh-oh! What's happened here? It has started raining at Old Trafford and the players walk off the field. Pakistan will be more disappointed with this stoppage in play as they were looking good. The covers make their way to the middle and we pray that it is just a passing shower.

Mohammad Amir to Chris Jordan, NOT OUT! Wided in fact! That's a back of a good length ball down the leg side, Jordan looks to flick again but misses and umpire Mike call that as a wide. Rizwan appeals as is the diversionary custom these days but nothing doing says the umpire. Pakistan take it upstairs but reality dawns them hard when they find out that Jordan did not get any bat on that. And thereby the visitors lose all their reviews.
  • Pakistan will review this one as they think Jordan had nicked that. But UltraEdge pours water over their hopes as there was no bat involved there. And the visitors have drained out all their reviews.

Mohammad Amir to Chris Jordan, FOUR! Leg-byes though but England will take this! Short of a good length around leg, Jordan looks to flick it but misses and it goes off his back pad behind as Rizwan dives but can't collect that. It races away to the boundary at long stop.
  • END OF OVER 16 | 5 Runs & 1 Wkt | ENG 126/6
  • Mohammad Amir will continue for the visitors, replacing Shadab Khan.

Imad Wasim to Chris Jordan, Wasim bowls yet another flatter ball. Jordan taps this to the vacant short mid-wicket region and takes a quick single. Imad Wasim had to run in and collect that.

Imad Wasim to Lewis Gregory, OUT! STUMPED! Excellent work from both the bowler and the keeper. Rizwan is having a fantastic season behind the stumps. England in some trouble here as Gregory departs for just two. The ball was flatter and outside off, spins in towards the off pole after pitching. Gregory was down the pitch and looked to play at that. He misses and Rizwan collects and does the rest.
