Commentary
  • Right then, the final day of league action in the Indian T20 League 2023 and as it stands, Mumbai will be going through to the playoffs. There is however one more game left and the outcome of that one can change Mumbai's fate. Bangalore take on Gujarat on a rain-hit day in Bangalore. For now, the rain has stopped though and the toss is about to take place soon. You can simply switch tabs and enjoy our coverage of that game. Cheers!
  • Cameron Green is the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock of 100 runs from 47 balls.
  • Suryakumar Yadav is in for a chat. He says that Green deserved that 100 and adds that they did not have not to worry about the net run rate. Mentions that they felt if they could curtail Hyderabad to 200, it was a gettable total. Shares that his focus has been on what has worked for them in the last few months. Ends by saying that he is happy with the way the season has gone and adds that it would have been great had they qualified by now.
  • Aiden Markram, the skipper of Hyderabad, says that this was certainly not the season they hoped for. Mentions that it was a decent effort with the bat but feels that they needed a score in excess of 200. Shares that his boys tried their best but still ended up on the losing side. States that captaining has been a great challenge and there have been a lot of learnings. Feels that the opening partnership was great and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Heinrich Klaasen have been consistent players this season.
  • Time for some interviews...
  • Earlier in the game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and put Hyderabad into bat first which backfired a bit as the opposition made a good start with the bat. The new opening pair of Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma added 140 runs for the first wicket and laid down the platform for Hyderabad to get something around 210 or 220 on the board. Both Agarwal and Sharma got half-centuries but once the latter fell, it all went downhill for the visitors. Apart from a few runs by Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram, no one else contributed much and the lack of boundaries towards the end meant they just about managed to get to 200. For Mumbai, it was Akash Madhwal who was brilliant with the ball and picked up a four-wicket haul and Chris Jordan too bowled decently at the death. Coming to the chase, Cameron Green stepped up when it mattered and with help from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, just blew away the opposition.
  • Hyderabad just never looked like they had the belief to win this game. They let the momentum slip at the backend with the bat and with the ball, the inexperienced lineup showed its fragility. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a fine spell and was economical as well but apart from him no one really stepped up. Mayank Dagar did get a wicket but the pace trio of Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kartik Tyagi were simply blown away by the Mumbai batters. All in all, it was a below-par showing with the ball which cost them dearly.
  • Needing 201 to win, Mumbai were off to a quick start but Ishan Kishan fell early. Cameron Green walked out at number 3 and simply took the bull by its horns as he went after the bowlers and got maximum purchase as well. Rohit Sharma at the other end kept going hard at the bowling without much success and did get a couple of lives as well but made them count as he brought up a half-century. Sharma did get out but Green continued the onslaught and together with Suryakumar Yadav, the pair took Mumbai to victory with ease. Green capped things off as he hit the winning runs and brought up a sensational century as well, top stuff from the Aussie.
  • MUMBAI HAVE DONE THEIR BIT! What a brilliant chase this has been from Mumbai and especially Cameron Green and they have now done what they needed to do. As things stand, Mumbai will make it through to the playoffs but, it can all change as there is one more game left. For now, Mumbai will be happy and it is the end of a rather underwhelming season for Hyderabad.
