Commentary
  • Done and dusted with the first ODI of this series. An easy win really for the home team. Now, the focus shifts to Christchurch for the next game and we look forward to your company on 16th February at 1100 local (2200 GMT, previous day). Until then, it's goodbye and cheers. You can now switch tabs to catch all the updates from the first Test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka where the hosts are in an early spot of bother. Cheers!
  • New Zealand's skipper, Kane Williamson rates this as a very good performance. Says that the bowlers set the tone and then the batters did the job efficiently. Praises Guptill for his knock. Adds that there was mark importance in their fielding from the last series and hopes to keep up with the good work. Mentions that they just want to execute their roles and it's important to back it up. He is expecting a big crowd in the next game and is not taking Bangladesh lightly as they can bounce back.
  • Bangladesh's skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza says that it was tough for them. Admits that they lost too many wickets early. Adds that they cannot make any excuses and they have to adjust to the conditions. Hopes to give their best in the next matches. Emphasizes that batting is a concern and feels that they weren't too bad with the ball this evening.
  • Man of the Match, Martin Guptill says that their bowlers really did an amazing job to restrict Bangladesh. On his time away from cricket, he replies that sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. Says that he's stiff at the moment but will be fine by morning. States that he is happy to get runs under the belt and on batting with Ross Taylor, Guptill smiles and says that he keeps talking to him.
  • Earlier in the day, the tourists lost their top 6 under 100 and in spite of late recovery, managed only a below-par total. They would have hoped that their bowlers will make amends but that never really happened. A big loss for them in the series opener and now they will have to bounce back from this disappointing show to stay alive in the series.
  • A comprehensive win for the Black Caps. They never looked under any kind of pressure during the run chase and overhauled the target without any fuss. Martin Guptill stood there like a rock and stroked a fluent century and his opening partnership with Henry Nicholls set the early tone. Bangladesh's bowling, like their batting, was listless. They did manage to pick a couple of wickets in the middle overs but failed to create any hindrance in the home side's path to victory.
