Commentary
  • That is it from this match. It is time for the final day for teams to warm-up before the mega event kicks off. On the 3rd of this month, India will take on Netherlands while Pakistan will take on Australia. Both matches will start at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT). Join us for the build up. Cheers!
  • New Zealand were superb with the ball to start. Trent Boult and Matt Henry went past the outside edge numerous times and kept it very tight but somehow South Africa saved their wickets and got a stand to build. Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock joined hands and scored fifty each. Heinrich Klaasen too batted well. South Africa kept the required run rate in check but eventually, it was the rain gods that hampered their hopes.
  • New Zealand batted first and started well as their top five did the bulk of the scoring. Devon Conway, Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips made handy contributions and New Zealand got a score above 300 with ease. South Africa were sloppy with the ball and also in the field. Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi were the pick of the lot with three wickets each but others were just too poor.
  • Meanwhile, the skippers are shaking hands. Okay, we have an official confirmation. New Zealand win the game by 7 runs (DLS Method). So, what was turning out to be a thriller has burst our hopes. Rain has the last say. South Africa were batting really well. Quinton de Kock actually was giving his all despite it being a warm-up match and was all set to take his team home but DLS comes into play in the end.
  • Update - 9.37 pm IST (4.07 pm GMT) - The covers are coming off. Lucikly, it was a passing shower and the groundsmen are back quickly to remove the covers. Just as we write, the rain has picked up again and the covers are back in place.
  • Update - 9.20 pm IST (3.50 pm GMT) - It has started to rain and the covers are on. Much heavier than the previous rain break. Looks like we are in for a long delay. South Africa are 7 runs behind the DLS score.
