Commentary
  • Right then! What a start for Oman in this tournament and they will be very happy with their performace. Papua New Guinea have been left bruised with this performance. Don't go anywhere as another game is coming up as Bangladesh go up against Scotland. That game will begin at 1800 local (1400 GMT). Do join us there. Till then, cheers!
  • Oman skipper, Zeeshan Maqsood says that the ground fielding wasn't upto the mark and they will definitely work on it. Mentions that they always have more bowling options and they like to play that way. Adds that the catching has been good but the ground fielding needs to be improved and they will look to rectify the mistakes in the next match.
  • Papua New Guinea skipper, Assad Vala says that they didn't get a good start at the beginning and lost their way in the middle overs and the team just collapsed. Mentions that Oman fought very well and they deserve the win. Informs that they were looking around 160-170 and perhaps that would have given them a chance. Adds that 129 was never going to be enough. Says that they will now focus on their next game and come back stronger.
  • Zeeshan Maqsood is the Man of the Match. He says that he is very happy and it was a crucial time when he struck as the opponents were batting well. Adds that they put the brakes on their innings then and they couldn't put up a big total. Mentions that he tries to bowl tight and don't give away freebies. Adds that they just tried not to give boundaries away and the run out also helped. Adds that they know the conditions well, which is a slight advantage and they can even chase down a surplus of 150 runs. He ends by applauding the two openers, Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas.
  • ... PRESENTATION TIME ...
  • Earlier in the game, Oman did really well to restrict Papua New Guinea to just 129. Their skipper led the charge with the ball as he picked up 4 wickets while he was supported well by the others. Assad Vala was the only batter who could do well as he scored a fine 56 but he needed some support from the others. Oman chased down the score with ease and they have made a perfect start to the tournament.
  • Papua New Guinea were simply hammered by the Oman openers. They did not have any ideas as to how to bowl and they were punished. Their fielding was also poor while they bowled far too many no balls which is not good at this level. Everyone who bowled took a pounding. It was a disappointing performance and they have had a poor start to the tournament.
  • Oman started off slow but they knew that once they settled in, they could attack. That's what Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas did. They attacked after the 5th over and they never relented. Jatinder Singh was the aggressor as he played some lovely shots and played a majestic knock. Aqib Ilyas too played a fine knock and they chased down the score quite comfortably. They surely have told the other teams they are not to be taken lightly.
  • What a start for Oman in this tournament! They have made a statement that they are here to fight hard. They have made a mockery of the run chase and they will be pretty pleased with how things panned out here. Papua New Guinea will be disappointed with the effort and they need to put in a better show in their next game.
