Commentary
  • Right then, that is all we have from this game and the warm-up matches also come to an end. The action doesn't stop though, as two Group B matches are to be played tomorrow with both spots in the Super 12 still up for grabs. The first of those matches will be played between Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea. That match will begin at 2 pm local time (10:00 am GMT). Do join us for that one. Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • Earlier in the day, Pakistan were put into bat and they made the most of the opportunity as they posted a sizeable total of 186 runs on the board. It looked like Pakistan were on a roll with the ball as well but then came a storm named Rassie van der Dussen, who single-handedly took the game away from them. In the end, South Africa ended up winning a thriller of a match on the final delivery.
  • Pakistan were just about to taste victory when it all went wrong for them. Imad Wasim gave them a dream start by uprooting both the South African openers with the score on board being just 15 runs. However, it was in the middle overs that their bowlers struggled, both the pace bowlers and spinners as well. They did manage to get rid of Bavuma and even Klaasen in the end but could not get the priced wicket of Rassie van der Dussen, which did prove to be the difference in the end. Hasan Ali had a day to forget as he was unable to defend 19 runs in the last over and this loss is exactly what Pakistan did not need heading into the tournament and having to face India in their opening match. They will now look to organise themselves and get ready for that match.
  • South Africa didn't have the best of starts as both their openers were back in the hut with just 15 runs on the board. The skipper, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen steadied the ship a bit and then the latter just burst into life. The pair put on 107 runs for the third wicket as Rassie van der Dussen brought up a well compiled half-century. Bavuma was slow to start with and just when runs were flowing from his bat, he got out. Klaasen then came in and gave ample support to Rassie van der Dussen but he got out as well. With 19 needed off the last over, it was David Miller who hit one 6 and gave the strike back to red-hot Rassie van der Dussen. He finished off proceedings in style and pulled off the great escape. South Africa will now go into the main draw of the tournament high on confidence.
  • What a remarkable chase we have just witnessed! Rassie van der Dussen single-handedly has won the game for South Africa and it is only fitting that he is the one to hit the winning runs and also brings up a stunning century in the process. Pakistan will be gutted to watch the match slip out of their hands.
