Commentary
  • Right then, that is it from this run-fest where over 400 runs were scored, but in the end, Chennai managed to get over the line. The Indian T20 League is providing us with a lot of excitement and the action continues on 18th April, Tuesday when Mumbai take on Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
  • Devon Conway is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant knock. He says that he is happy with how things went for him and the team as well. Adds that he tries to always play good cricket shots and whenever he is under pressure he tries to react to the situation. Mentions that the fans of Chennai are amazing and loyal and when you have MS Dhoni in your team it is always a good thing.
  • MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai says that when you come to Bangalore you know it's a good wicket and you always look to score more runs. Mentions that the wicket was a bit tacky, to begin with and the pacers got a bit of help. Further says that they tried to keep it simple and looked to get more runs in the second half of the innings. On Shivam Dube, he says that he has the talent and can turn the game in the middle overs and he has to believe in himself a bit more to do it regularly. Mentions that when you score 210-220 runs, the batters need to keep hitting and if either Faf du Plessis or Glenn Maxwell had stayed, Bangalore would have chased it down. Adds that it is a challenge bowling at the death especially with the dew taking effect as well but they did well and with Dwayne Bravo being the bowling coach, it certainly helps the young guys a lot.
  • The presentation ceremony...
  • Tushar Deshpande joins in for a quick chat. Says that they all know that the wicket here is good for batting and one side of the ground is shorter than the other. Adds that they had to back their strengths and wait for the batters to make the mistake which worked for them. Mentions that he believes in staying in the present and even if one over goes for runs you have three overs to come back in the game. He ends by saying he has the confidence in himself to do the job for the team.
  • The captain of Bangalore, Faf du Plessis says that while fielding he bruised his ribs a bit and was feeling discomfort while batting. Adds that they batted brilliantly and set up the chase perfectly for Dinesh Karthik and others, but credits Chennai for their bowling. Tells that it was difficult for the bowlers out there but they did well except for the last four overs. Mentions that 200 was a par score but they gave away 10-15 extra runs. Says that they conceded a few runs towards the short boundary to Shivam Dube. Praises Mohammed Siraj for his bowling effort as it was not easy. Ends by saying that he lost a bit of power in the end and would have loved to go hard against the spinners in the middle overs, but they need to learn from it and move on.
  • Earlier in the game, Faf du Plessis didn't hesitate to put Chennai into bat and everyone knew it was going to be a high-scoring game. After losing an early wicket, Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane went on a bit of a roll to get things going for Chennai after which Shivam Dube came in and flexed his muscles as he sent the ball into the crowd on more than a few occasions. Conway top-scored with 83 and Dube too got a fifty. There were a few lusty blows hit by the batters that came in at the death to take them to a big score of 226 runs. Mohammed Siraj was the only bowler that had an economy of less than 10 runs in an over for Bangalore and they were truly hammered with the ball. Coming to the chase, Bangalore made a stellar recovery after losing two early wickets only to give it all away in the death overs. Chennai managed to just stay in the game and wait for an opening and once it came, they made sure to end up on the winning side.
  • Bangalore will be distraught with that loss and for the second time this season, they have lost a game at home that they should have won. They didn't have the best of starts with the bat and looked shaky in the first 3 or so overs. After that though, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell found their groove and put on a big stand of 126 runs, both getting to their fifties in the process as well. The pair looked well on course to finishing things off by themselves but both got out in quick succession, leaving the middle order with a bit of work to do. Dinesh Karthik played a good knock but gave away his wicket at the wrong time and there wasn't enough experience in the batting line-up to take them over the line.
  • Chennai have won a great game of cricket and gathered two vital points on the road. They got a brilliant start with the ball as Akash Singh got the big wicket of Virat Kohli in the first over and then Tushar Deshpande too bagged a wicket. They could have killed the game inside the Powerplay but both Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell were dropped early in their innings. This proved to be really costly as the pair took the Chennai bowlers apart. However, the spinners did a fine job just before the death overs as both Faf and Maxwell fell courtesy of a couple of fine catches by MS Dhoni. The death bowling was stellar and Chennai managed to hold on to their catches when it mattered most, ending up winning the game.
  • Yet another nail-biter game, but Chennai have just about edged it. Chennai with a memorable comeback as they seemed to be on the verge of defeat at one stage. However, heartbreak for Bangalore and inexperience in the lower order has cost them dearly and it will be a tough pill to swallow.
