Commentary
  • Our coverage of this game comes to an end. Two inconsequential matches are still left in the series and both teams will take that as an opportunity to try different team compositions and game plans. The fourth ODI is on Wednesday, 13th March and we look forward to your company at 1300 local (1100 GMT) for all the action. Cheers!
  • South African skipper, Faf du Plessis says that the batting was one thing they were looking forward to. Opines that they were brilliant today. Praises Dwaine Pretorius' knock and lauds the way Miller and Phehlukwayo finished the innings. States that scoring runs at the death is critical and to have big hitters in the tank is something they are blessed with. He is happy that the talking they did after the last game was put into action today. He is overall satisfied with today's work. On winning the series, du Plessis replies that it's great and they are looking forward to the next two matches. Mentions that regardless of the result, they will be trying out new combinations.
  • Quinton de Kock is once again the Man of the Match for his fine century. Says that he does just the top-ups to stay in the groove and he tries to train as less as possible as it can be tiring. Adds that scoring is just a mental thing and he is going with a strong mindset at the moment. He is happy to finally convert his 80s and 90s into a big score. As a team, de Kock wants to keep doing what they are doing currently.
  • Sri Lankan skipper, Lasith Malinga says that their bowling was not up to the mark and they misfielded quite a bit also. Adds that they didn't get a good start and the DLS revised target was a bit too much. Feels the rain came at the wrong time as Kusal Mendis and Oshada Fernando were doing a good job. Considers Kamindu's bowling as a positive. On the World Cup plans, Malinga replies that they want to give opportunities to players to gain confidence and do their job.
  • Chasing a target in excess of 300, Sri Lanka required a quickfire start but it never came. Niroshan Dickwella fell early and then after a bit of resistance, Avishka Fernando also departed. The pair of Oshada Fernando and Kusal Mendis looked good in the middle but the rain intervened and ate out too much time from the chase. When the chase resumed, Sri Lanka were handed almost an impossible task of scoring 118 runs off 48 balls. South Africa bowled Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi post that and the spin twin finished the job efficiently.
  • An easy win for South Africa and they take an unassailable lead in the 5-match ODI series. It was a professional effort from them with the bat. Quinton de Kock led with a fine century and all the other batsmen, barring Reeza Hendricks, played good hands. Partnerships were the main feature of their innings as they went on to post a big total on the board. The Sri Lankan bowling once again was listless and apart from debutant Kamindu Mendis, the rest struggled.

I Tahir to I Udana, Missing leg! That will be it then, SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 71 RUNS (DLS Method)! A well-disguised googly by Tahir. He lands it full and around off, Udana tries to defend it off his front foot but misses. He is rapped on the pads and they put in an unsuccessful appeal. Imran wants to get it reviewed and a smiling Faf obliges. The replays roll in and they show that it's turning down too much. Now, the players are shaking hands in the middle.
  • Huge shout for an lbw! Not given. Doesn't matter much but Tahir wants to review it. Faf du Plessis smiles and signals for it.
