New-Generation Kia Seltos to Return with Hybrid Power, Triple-Screen Setup; Set to Challenge Rival SUVs
Kia is preparing to bring the next-generation Seltos back to the Indian market with a hybrid powertrain and advanced cabin technology, significantly raising the bar in the midsize SUV segment. The South Korean automaker confirmed the Seltos Hybrid for India during its 2025 Investor Day, although an exact launch timeline has not been announced. Industry expectations suggest a market debut in 2027
The upcoming Seltos Hybrid will be based on the new-generation model and is expected to feature a petrol-hybrid setup, combining a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with one or more electric motors and a battery pack. Notably, this hybrid system will also be used in Kia’s upcoming three-row premium SUV, based on the Sorento, which is slated for launch in India by late 2026
Recent spy images from South Korea have provided the first glimpse of the Seltos Hybrid. The test mule closely resembles the US-spec ICE-powered Seltos but carries a HEV badge on the tailgate, confirming its hybrid identity. According to available information, the global hybrid version is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine
Kia is expected to adopt an aggressive localisation strategy for its hybrid offerings in India. The company is likely to locally manufacture key components of its petrol-hybrid system, including electric motors, inverters, battery packs, and other critical hardware
Alongside the Seltos Hybrid, Kia is also developing a seven-seater hybrid SUV, codenamed MQ4i, based on the globally sold Kia Sorento. This model will be produced at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh and is aimed at competing with vehicles such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar
Globally, the Sorento measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,695 mm in height, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase and 176 mm ground clearance. The India-bound version is expected to be similar in size, offering a wide stance and strong road presence.
Expected Features and TechnologyThe new-generation Kia Seltos is expected to offer a significantly upgraded cabin, with highlights likely to include dual or triple digital screens
On the safety front, the SUV is expected to come equipped with multiple airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, and a Level 2 ADAS suite
