Telangana Govt Offers Up to ₹4 Lakh Discount on EVs for Employees
In a major push towards green mobility, the Telangana government has announced a special incentive scheme for its employees, offering significant discounts on the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs). The initiative aims to accelerate the transition from petrol and diesel vehicles to cleaner alternatives.
Up to 20% Discount on EV Purchases
State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar revealed that government employees will receive discounts of up to 20%
The policy is expected to benefit nearly 5 lakh state government employees, making EV ownership more accessible and affordable.
Collaboration with EV Manufacturers
The government has held discussions with leading EV companies such as Mahindra Electric, Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and Gravton Motors to facilitate these discounts. Importantly, the subsidy is being offered through company agreements, meaning it does not directly burden the state exchequer.
Additional Benefits: Tax and Fee Waivers
This scheme comes on top of earlier incentives announced in 2024, including:
- 100% exemption on road tax
- Full waiver of registration fees
These benefits apply to a wide range of EVs, including two-wheelers, cars, taxis, autos, commercial vehicles, tractors, and buses.
Expansion of EV Infrastructure
To support growing EV adoption, the government plans to expand charging infrastructure across the state. Charging stations will be installed at government offices, public parking areas, malls, hotels, and commercial spaces.
Additionally, a dedicated EV headquarters will be set up in Hyderabad to streamline policies and promote electric mobility.
Government Leading by Example
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has also directed that all government departments procure only electric vehicles going forward. Even hired vehicles for official use in cities will be electric.
Towards a Greener Future
With financial incentives and infrastructure development, Telangana aims to reduce fuel dependency, improve air quality, and position itself as a leader in sustainable transportation in India.
