Triber gets new competition! Nissan's new 7-seater MPV to be unveiled today, Ertiga in focus

Newspoint

Nissan is set to unveil its new sub-4 metre MPV for the Indian market today. This will be Nissan’s first mass-market 7-seater MPV in India and is expected to directly challenge popular models such as the Renault Triber and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

The upcoming MPV will be based on the Renault Triber, meaning it will share the same platform and mechanical components. So far, Nissan has released only a few teaser images, which reveal very little about the final design of the vehicle. As seen earlier with Nissan’s Tekton compact SUV concept, the company is likely to focus on design sketches and styling highlights during today’s reveal rather than showcasing the complete production-ready model. Nissan is also expected to announce the official name of the MPV during the presentation.

When will Nissan’s new MPV be launched?

This new MPV is part of Nissan’s broader product strategy for India. Under this plan, the company aims to launch three new models over the next two years. The Triber-based MPV will be the first of these and is expected to be launched in February 2026.

After this, Nissan plans to introduce the Tekton compact SUV, which will be based on the Renault Duster platform, around June 2026. The third model in the lineup is expected to be a new 7-seater SUV, which could arrive in early 2027. Once launched, Nissan’s MPV is likely to intensify competition in the affordable 7-seater segment dominated by the Triber and Ertiga.

Expected features and engine options

In terms of features, the new Nissan MPV is expected to offer automatic headlamps, cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system, rain-sensing wipers, and a digital instrument cluster. Safety is also expected to be a strong focus, with six airbags likely to be standard across variants. Other expected safety features include seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Under the hood, the MPV is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 71 hp and 96 Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT.
