TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric scooter line-up with the launch of the new Orbiter, designed to make electric mobility more accessible to Indian families. Priced at ₹99,900 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, under the PM e-Drive scheme), the Orbiter sits below the iQube as the entry-level offering in the brand’s EV portfolio. Combining a competitive price point, a practical design, and modern connected technology, the Orbiter is aimed at riders seeking reliable performance and everyday convenience.
Practical Battery Pack And Real-World Range
The Orbiter comes equipped with a 3.1kWh battery pack and a claimed IDC range of 158km. While lab-tested figures often differ from on-road performance, the Orbiter is expected to deliver around 120km in real-world conditions, making it well suited for daily commutes and city travel. The scooter’s top speed is limited to 68kph, striking a balance between efficiency and urban rideability. TVS has opted for a straightforward single-battery configuration, unlike the multiple options offered with the iQube, reinforcing the Orbiter’s position as a budget-friendly EV.Larger Front Wheel For Added Stability
One of the standout features of the Orbiter is its unique wheel setup. With a 14-inch wheel at the front and a 12-inch wheel at the rear, the scooter offers enhanced stability and road presence. This choice mirrors a growing trend among electric two-wheeler makers to prioritise a sturdier stance and improved ride quality. The larger front wheel may slightly impact efficiency, but for urban users navigating uneven roads, it offers a practical advantage.Technology That Supports Everyday Riding
Beyond its powertrain, the Orbiter comes loaded with connected technology. Riders can sync the scooter with a dedicated mobile application to access turn-by-turn navigation, receive over-the-air updates, and activate safety features such as anti-theft alerts, crash notifications, and geo-fencing. Everyday usability is further enhanced with features like hill-hold assist, parking assist with reverse capability, cruise control, and selectable Eco and Power riding modes, catering to different rider preferences.Minimalist Styling With Functional Design
The Orbiter’s styling is distinct yet practical. Its boxy silhouette and large single-panel design contribute to a unique side profile, while the handlebar-mounted LED headlamp paired with a RoboCop-style LED light strip across the apron gives it a futuristic character. The scooter will be available in six different colours, giving buyers a good variety of choices to suit personal style.Space And Storage Convenience
TVS has also focused on functionality with this new scooter. The Orbiter offers a generous 34-litre underseat storage compartment, large enough to fit two helmets, alongside a spacious 290mm flat floorboard for added practicality. This focus on storage capacity highlights its family-friendly orientation and sets it apart as a strong contender in the segment.Positioned For Families And Everyday Commuters
By combining affordability, practical design, and modern technology, the Orbiter positions itself as a versatile family scooter. It competes with rivals such as the Ather Rizta, offering an alternative for buyers who value space, stability, and accessible pricing. For TVS, the Orbiter strengthens its presence in India’s expanding EV market and broadens its customer base at a time when electric two-wheelers are gaining strong traction.Next Story
