Why So Many Names Are Being Removed

Investigations across several states uncovered shocking findings. Many ineligible individuals were receiving free rations for years, and in some cases, ration was being issued in the name of people who had already passed away. This misuse meant that deserving families often did not get their rightful share.

To ensure fairness, the Centre has strengthened verification across all states, resulting in the deletion of nearly 2.25 crore ineligible names from the NFSA list over the past few months.

Who Has Been Removed From the List?

Officials found several issues, such as:
  • People who didn’t meet the income or eligibility criteria
  • Families who took ration cards only to gain benefits
  • Individuals who hadn’t collected ration for over six months
  • Fake or inactive beneficiaries
Removing these names, the government says, will improve supply for families who truly depend on this support.

How to Check if Your Ration Card Is Still Active

If you’re worried that your name might have been removed, checking is simple:
  • Visit nfsa.gov.in
  • Click on the Ration Card option
  • Select Ration Card Details on State Portals
  • Choose your state, district, block, and panchayat
  • Select your ration shop and card category

If your family’s name appears in the list, your card is active. If not, it has likely been deleted.
Don’t Forget: e-KYC Is Now Mandatory

The government has made e-KYC compulsory for all ration card holders. Those who haven’t completed e-KYC may face deactivation. To avoid disruptions in future ration supply, beneficiaries should complete their verification at the earliest.
