To help consumers stay safe, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced the BIS CARE app , a simple tool that lets you verify whether a charger or electronic item meets government safety standards.

What the BIS CARE App Does

The app allows users to check if everyday electronics mobile chargers, power banks, LED bulbs, kitchen appliances, and moreare certified. By entering the product’s ISI number or R-number, the app instantly tells you whether it complies with BIS safety norms.

Experts highlight several risks linked to substandard chargers:

  • Excessive heating that can cause fires or short circuits
  • Permanent damage to phone batteries
  • Slow or unstable charging performance
  • Risk of electric shock

Warning signs include abnormal heat, burning smells, or chargers that disconnect frequently while in use. If you notice any of these, stop using the charger immediately.

How to Verify Your Charger

Checking a product’s authenticity is quick and easy:

  • Download the BIS CARE app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Find the ISI mark or R-number printed on your charger.
  • Enter the number in the app and tap Verify.
  • The app will confirm whether the product is certified or fake.

Reporting Fake Products

If the app flags a charger as fake, you can file a complaint directly within the app. Consumers can also approach their nearest consumer forum for further action. Authorities stress that stopping the use of counterfeit chargers is the first step towards avoiding accidents and ensuring safety at home.

With one quick check, you can protect your device and your household from unnecessary risks.
