HDFC Bank Raises FD Interest Rates, Customers Set to Benefit

Good news for fixed deposit investors. HDFC Bank has increased interest rates on select FD tenures, offering slightly better returns to customers. The bank has raised the rate by 10 basis points (0.10%) on deposits with specific durations. The revised rates came into effect from March 6, 2026, and apply to FDs below ₹3 crore.

Interest Rate Increased for This Tenure

The rate hike applies to fixed deposits with tenures ranging from 3 years and 1 day to less than 4 years and 7 months. Earlier, general customers earned 6.40% interest on these deposits, which has now been raised to 6.50%.

Senior citizens will benefit even more, with rates increasing from 6.90% to 7% for the same period.

A Relief After Earlier Rate Cuts

Interestingly, the bank had reduced FD rates for some tenures in December 2025. The latest increase offers partial relief to investors, especially those planning medium-term fixed deposits.

Latest FD Interest Rate Range

After the revision, FD interest rates at HDFC Bank now range between 2.75% and 6.50% for general customers.
Senior citizens receive slightly higher returns, with rates ranging from 3.25% to 7%. These rates apply to deposits with tenures from 7 days to 10 years.

Interest on Short-Term Deposits

Short-term FDs typically offer lower returns. Deposits with tenures of 7-14 days and 15-29 days currently provide 2.75% interest for general customers and 3.25% for senior citizens.

For deposits lasting 6 to 9 months, the interest rate stands at 5.50%, while senior citizens receive 6%. A 1-year FD offers about 6.25% for general customers and 6.75% for senior citizens.

Returns on Longer-Term FDs

Longer-tenure deposits offer slightly better interest. FDs with durations of 18 months to 2 years provide around 6.45% for general investors and 6.95% for senior citizens.

Meanwhile, deposits of 5 years to 10 years offer 6.15% interest for general customers and 6.65% for senior citizens.

Things to Consider Before Investing

Fixed deposits remain one of the safest investment options, as they provide guaranteed returns and carry minimal risk. However, investors should always compare FD rates across banks before investing. Choosing a tenure that matches your financial goals and liquidity needs can help you make the most of your savings.
