Big PhonePe Update: Send Money Up to ₹5,000 Without UPI PIN

Digital payments are now part of everyday life in India. From buying groceries to ordering food, booking cabs, or shopping online, UPI has become the preferred payment method for millions. In a major move to simplify small-value transactions, PhonePe has introduced a new feature that allows users to make payments up to ₹5,000 without entering a UPI PIN.

This is made possible through biometric authentication. Your fingerprint or face unlock now serves as a secure secondary authentication method, making payments faster, smoother, and hassle-free. This feature is especially useful for daily transactions, where stopping to type a PIN can feel cumbersome.

How the Feature Works

For transactions up to ₹5,000, PhonePe now relies on your smartphone’s native security system for verification. This means your fingerprint or face recognition acts as the authentication layer, replacing the need to manually enter your UPI PIN. Everyday payments such as groceries, medicines, food delivery, and other small purchases can now be completed quickly. For larger transactions exceeding ₹5,000, the traditional UPI PIN will still be required, ensuring that security is never compromised.

Availability

At present, this feature is available for Android users. iPhone users will get access in an upcoming update. By gradually rolling it out across platforms, PhonePe aims to make UPI payments more seamless and efficient for all users.

How to Activate Biometric Payments

Enabling this feature is simple:

• Open the PhonePe app and navigate to your Profile section.
• Tap Manage Payments.
• Select Biometric Pay and enable the feature for your bank account.
• During the initial setup, confirm your UPI PIN and register your biometrics.

Once setup is complete, all transactions up to ₹5,000 will be authenticated using your phone’s fingerprint or face unlock system, eliminating the need to type in your PIN every time.
