Following the Cabinet's approval to the proposal to continue the Atal Pension Yojana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on the social media platform X, "We are committed to the welfare of our brothers and sisters working in the unorganized sector across the country. In this regard, today our government has approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana till 2030-31. This will ensure old age income security for the low-income group and unorganized sector workers."

According to an official release issued after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, activities such as awareness and capacity building to increase outreach among unorganized sector workers will continue to receive government support.

Guaranteed minimum pension of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000

The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched on May 9, 2015, with the aim of providing old-age income security to workers in the unorganized sector. As of January 19, 2026, more than 86.6 million members have been registered under the APY. The scheme guarantees a minimum pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 per month after the age of 60, depending on contributions.
