The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made a significant decision in a meeting. The Cabinet approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) until the financial year 2030-31.
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the continuation of the government's flagship Atal Pension Yojana (APY) till the financial year 2030-31.
Additionally, approval was given to expand financial support for promotional, developmental activities, and "gap funding." According to an official release issued after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, activities such as awareness and capacity building to increase outreach among unorganized sector workers will continue to receive government support.
The government believes that taking the scheme forward will help India become a pension-based society and will also strengthen the goal of 'Developed India 2047'.
The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched on May 9, 2015, with the aim of providing old-age income security to workers in the unorganized sector. As of January 19, 2026, more than 86.6 million members have been registered under the APY. The scheme guarantees a minimum pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 per month after the age of 60, depending on contributions.
