EPFO Update on Your Mobile? Complete the Process Today Without Fail

A simple message on your phone could make a big difference if you or a family member receives an EPFO pension. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has started sending face authentication alerts to pensioners, and overlooking them could lead to your pension being stopped.

But there’s no reason to worry. The entire process is quick, simple, and can be completed from home using just your mobile phone.

Why are you getting this message?

EPFO is upgrading its system to make pension services safer and more convenient. Instead of visiting banks or offices to submit a life certificate, pensioners can now verify their identity using face authentication.

All it takes is a quick face scan on your smartphone, making the process faster and hassle-free, especially for elderly users.

Who needs to take action?

This message is mainly being sent to pensioners under the EPS-95 scheme whose life certificate is due for renewal. It’s also helpful for those who face issues with fingerprint verification due to age or worn-out fingerprints.

Even if you haven’t received the message yet, checking your status is a smart move. Missing the deadline for submitting your life certificate can interrupt your pension payments.

What happens if you ignore it?

Delaying this step can create unnecessary trouble. EPFO clearly states that if the life certificate is not submitted on time, pension payments may be stopped.

Restarting a halted pension isn’t always smooth, you may need to visit offices and complete additional formalities. More importantly, you won’t receive arrears for the period your pension was paused.

How to complete face authentication from home

You can finish the process in minutes using the UMANG app. Here’s how:
  • Open the UMANG app and log in with your mobile number or Aadhaar
  • Search for “EPFO” and open the service section
  • Select the face authentication option for UAN services
  • Enter your Aadhaar and registered mobile number, then give consent
  • Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  • Tap on “Scan Face” and follow the instructions
  • Once completed, your details will be updated and confirmed via SMS

This new digital step is designed to make life easier, not harder. Acting on the message in time ensures your pension continues without interruption, and saves you from avoidable stress later.
