LPG Supply Update: Government Announces Major Digital Shift in Gas Distribution System Across the Country

The government has issued an important update on LPG supply, offering reassurance and relief to millions of households. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the entire gas distribution system is rapidly becoming more digital, efficient and transparent. These changes are making everyday LPG services easier for consumers across the country.

Almost All LPG Bookings Now Done Online

One of the biggest highlights of the update is the shift towards digital booking. Around 99 percent of LPG cylinder bookings are now completed online.

Most consumers are using mobile apps, websites or other digital platforms to book cylinders directly from their homes. This has significantly reduced the need for manual booking and has made the entire process faster, simpler and more convenient.

The move also reflects how deeply digital systems are now integrated into daily utility services.

Stronger Security with OTP-Based Delivery System

Along with online booking, the delivery system has also been upgraded for better safety and transparency. At present, more than 94.5 percent of LPG deliveries are verified using OTP.

Under this system, a cylinder is considered delivered only after the customer shares a one-time password. This ensures that the delivery is confirmed directly by the consumer, reducing the chances of errors, misuse or fake deliveries.

This small step has greatly improved trust and accountability in the system.

No LPG Shortage, Supply Remains Stable

The government has clearly stated that there is no shortage of LPG anywhere in the country. Household gas supply is being given top priority to ensure that every consumer receives cylinders on time.

Along with LPG, there is also sufficient availability of petrol and diesel. All refineries across the country are operating at full capacity to maintain a steady and uninterrupted fuel supply chain.

This confirms that the overall energy supply situation remains stable.

PNG Connections Growing Rapidly

A major shift is also being seen in the adoption of Piped Natural Gas or PNG. In the last month alone, more than 5.36 lakh new PNG connections have been activated.

Infrastructure has been expanded for around 2.61 lakh additional connections, taking the total potential reach to nearly 7.97 lakh. At the same time, nearly 6 lakh new users have registered for PNG services.

This shows a clear trend towards cleaner and more convenient energy solutions in urban and semi-urban areas.

Growing Shift from LPG to PNG

Interestingly, the transition from LPG cylinders to PNG is also gaining pace. Over 42,000 consumers have already surrendered their LPG connections in favour of piped gas.

This shift is most noticeable in cities, where PNG is seen as more convenient because it removes the need for cylinder bookings and home delivery. Once connected, gas is available directly through pipelines, making daily usage easier and safer.

Government Keeping Watch on Global Situation

Along with managing domestic supply, the government is also closely monitoring international developments, especially in West Asia.

The Ministry of External Affairs is actively tracking the situation and taking precautionary steps to ensure the safety of Indian citizens living abroad. Several evacuation operations have already been carried out successfully.

This reflects a parallel focus on both domestic stability and global safety concerns.

Digital Transformation Improving Efficiency

Overall, the LPG distribution system is undergoing a major transformation. Digital booking, OTP verification and real-time tracking have made the system more transparent and user-friendly.

Consumers now experience fewer delays, better accountability and improved service quality compared to earlier systems.

The growing adoption of digital tools in LPG services, along with the expansion of PNG infrastructure, signals a long-term shift in how energy is distributed and consumed.

These changes not only improve convenience for households but also strengthen the overall energy management system of the country.
