PAN Card New Rules 2026: These 5 Documents Are Now Mandatory for Applications

Until now, many applicants could get a PAN card easily using Aadhaar through a simple e KYC process. This convenience will no longer be enough under the new system.

Aadhaar Alone Will Not Work Now

Under the revised rules, submitting only your Aadhaar number will not be sufficient to apply for a PAN card. Applicants will now need to provide additional documents to confirm their identity and date of birth.

The aim behind this change is to strengthen verification and ensure that PAN details are accurate and reliable.

These 5 Documents Are Now Mandatory

From April 1 onwards, you must submit at least one valid document along with Aadhaar. The accepted documents include:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Class 10 marksheet
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Voter ID

These documents will serve as proof of identity and date of birth, making the application process more thorough than before.

PAN Details Must Match Aadhaar

Another important update is the closer linking of PAN with Aadhaar information. Your name, date of birth, and other personal details must match exactly in both records.

If there is any mismatch, your application may be delayed or even rejected. It is advisable to check and update your Aadhaar details before applying.

How to Apply for a PAN Card

Even with stricter rules, the application process remains simple if you have all the required documents ready.

You can apply online through the Income Tax Department of India website or through authorised portals like NSDL e Governance and UTIITSL.

Here is how the process works:

  • Fill out Form 49A with your basic details
  • Upload the required documents
  • Pay the application fee online
  • Complete verification through OTP or e KYC if required

Once submitted, your application will be reviewed before approval.

Offline Application Option

Applicants who prefer offline methods can download the form, fill it out, and submit it along with documents at the nearest PAN service centre.

Apply Before the Deadline for Simpler Process

If you want to avoid additional documentation, you can still apply under the current rules until March 31, 2026. After that, the new requirements will be fully implemented.

The updated PAN card rules are designed to improve security and reduce errors in the system. While the process may take a little more effort, it will help ensure that financial records remain accurate and trustworthy.

Keeping your documents ready and details updated will make the application process smooth and hassle free.
