Zomato has increased the platform fee it charges users for food delivery. The fee has gone up by Rs 2.40, taking it to Rs 14.90 per order (before GST), compared to the earlier Rs 12.50. The change is now visible on the app and applies across all cities where the company operates.

The revised fee has been implemented nationwide, meaning all users ordering through Zomato will now pay slightly more per order. The last revision in platform fees was carried out in September last year.

Zomato's rival Swiggy is currently charging Rs 14.99 per order, including GST. Meanwhile, MagicPin is charging Rs 14.20 per order. However, Magicpin has said it will not increase its platform fee for now, aiming to support both customers and restaurant partners during a challenging period.

According to the company, the food delivery industry is facing pressure due to rising costs. Instead of passing on the burden to users, it has chosen to keep fees unchanged to maintain affordability.

Zomato's fee hike comes amid rising global crude oil prices, which directly impact delivery costs and overall operations.

With this increase, ordering food online will become marginally more expensive. While the hike per order is small, it can add up for frequent users.

The food delivery sector is currently navigating higher operational costs and global economic challenges. Companies are adopting different strategies; some are increasing fees, while others are holding prices steady to balance costs and remain competitive.
