FARIDABAD: In a major counter-terror operation , police in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir have uncovered a large cache of explosives and weapons from a rented accommodation in Faridabad, around 10 days after arresting a Pulwama-based doctor suspected of links with the Pakistan-backed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

According to officials, 360 kg of highly inflammable material, suspected to be ammonium nitrate, was seized from the apartment, alongside a substantial haul of arms and bomb-making components.

The recovery includes an assault rifle with three magazines, 83 live cartridges, a pistol with eight live rounds, two empty cartridges, two additional magazines, 12 suitcases and a bucket filled with the explosive substance, 20 timers, four batteries, remotes, five kilograms of heavy metal, and a walkie-talkie set.

Police believe the materials were meant to be used for large-scale terror strikes.

A woman doctor's role under scanner

Sources told TOI, the assault rifle linked to Muzammal was found inside a Swift Dzire car belonging to a woman doctor employed at Al-Falah University.

“We have not yet taken any action against her. It’s possible that the accused may have borrowed her vehicle without her knowledge. Since the weapon was recovered from her car, her role remains under investigation,” sources told TOI.

"She is in J&K for interrogation," sources told TOI.

Linked arrests in Faridabad and Saharanpur

The breakthrough comes after the earlier arrest of Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, another doctor from Pulwama, detained by J&K Police from Saharanpur.

His interrogation led investigators to Dr Muzammal, an assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, who was taken into custody roughly ten days ago.

Following Muzammal’s arrest, police searched his rented residence in Faridabad, where the explosive material and weapons were recovered on Sunday.

Officials said the suspect had rented an additional room solely to store the items.

He had rented the room around 15 days ago, and it was located near the university in the Dhouj area of Faridabad.

‘Major terror module busted’

Speaking on the operation, Faridabad Police commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta confirmed that a major terror module had been dismantled through coordinated efforts between Haryana Police and J&K Police.

“Though I cannot reveal much of the operation details as it concerns national security , joint teams of Haryana and J&K Police have successfully busted a major terror module,” he said.

“Earlier another operative of this module was arrested from Saharanpur, and more operatives are expected to be nabbed soon,” he added.

Officials suspect that the JeM handlers operating from across the border were coordinating with the arrested individuals to plan attacks in northern India.

The investigation is ongoing, and forensic experts are analysing the recovered materials to confirm the exact nature of the explosives.
