Ashok Tiwari, deputy superintendent of Bagaha sub-divisional hospital, said on Wednesday that the state govt provides Rs1,500 per month to people living with HIV under the Bihar Jan Shatabdi Yojana and Rs1,000 per month to such children aged 0–19 under the Parvarish Yojana. However, he said that the actual number such people could be higher.

Tiwari urged people to contact the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) or AIDS helpline 1097 for queries or guidance. AIDS counsellor Ramesh Ranjan Singh assured that assistance to patients and dependents is provided without delay or discrimination.

“Health check-ups are conducted every six months, and high-risk individuals are regularly screened as a precaution,” he said.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and informed, Singh said emphasizing that AIDS does not spread through eating, drinking, sitting together, or touching, and public awareness campaigns continue to share prevention tips.
