4 killed, 9 injured as bus with pilgrims collides with trailer in Jaunpur
Varanasi: At least four persons were killed and nine suffered grave injuries when a bus with around 50 pilgrims from Chhattisgarh collided with a trailer near Sihipur crossing in Jaunpur in early Monday, police said. The pilgrims were heading to Varanasi from Ayodhya.
Jaunpur SP Kaustubh said: "The bus was passing through Sihipur crossing around 3 am when its driver attempted to overtake a trailer. However, he lost control of the steering, and it collided with the trailer."
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and rushed the injured to the district hospital where doctors declared the bus driver Deepak (40), and passengers Asha Bhaval (40), Rekha Bernik (55) and Gulab Sahu (27) dead.
Kaustubh added that nine injured were undergoing treatment.
Most of these pilgrims are from Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, the SP said and added that remaining passengers were sent back to their homes safely.
